(Vintage) Slot Machines. Ladwig (Vintage) Slot Machines. Ladwig

Secondhand, GC, small tear to top of dust cover on spine.
Slot machines, nickel grinders, or one-arm bandits as they popularly came to be known, have had a long and chequered history. Chequered because their very design left them open to abuse, and consequently they often fell foul of gambling laws in various American states.
Although the era of the slot machine began in the last quarter of the 19th century, according to legend the founding father of vending and slot machines was the Greek scientist Hero, who invented a device for selling 'holy water'.
Slot machine manufacturers were hard hit by the Depression in the 1930s, although most managed to keep their heads above water by producing cheaper machines and getting around the gambling laws. This book shows some of the many models and variations that were produced during this time.
Packed with interesting information and details of the most famous slot machines, accompanied by a wealth of colour photographs, this book pays homage to the old one-arm bandits - a Hall of Fame for all those classic and beautifully designed machines of yesteryear.

Britians Toy Car Wars. Dinky vs Corgi vs Matchbox. Chapman. Britians Toy Car Wars. Dinky vs Corgi vs Matchbox. Chapman.

Diecast-metal Dinky Toys arrived in 1934. In 1953, Lesney launched the Matchbox series. Mettoy brought its Corgi range in 1956, with working suspension, seats, steering wheels, and opening doors and hoods. The brand hit the jackpot with its James Bond movie tie-in: a 1:43 scale Aston Martin DB5 with working versions of the on-screen gadgets, including ejector seat. Dinky hit back with models based on Gerry Anderson TV shows. From the U.S. (but made cheaply in Hong Kong), Mattel’s Hot Wheels arrived in 1968. The British establishment was left reeling. Throughout the 1970s, the nation’s three toy car heroes battled on, trying to alter their offerings so that they offered as much "play value" as possible.

Ultimate Guide to Vintage Transformers Action Figures. Bellomo Ultimate Guide to Vintage Transformers Action Figures. Bellomo

Abundantly visual and painstakingly detailed, we offer the definitive reference to vintage Transformers - some of the most desirable Toys found on the secondary market.|In 984, Hasbro quietly infiltrated the toy aisles with a series of robots based on Japanese robot toys. These "transformable" robots were divided into two camps: Autobots and Decepticons. The two sides provided children with classic "good versus evil" battles. Like the hugely successful G.I. Joe line, the Transformers were supported by a great television show and an excellent comic book produced by Marvel Comics.
With die-cast metal parts, rubber tires, working action features and sometimes-firing missiles, these robots quickly changed to jets, cars and other weapons. With a great concept supported by a runaway TV show and comic book series, the groundwork was laid for one of the most successful toy franchises of all times.
Today, Transformers are hotter than ever. Fuelled by four live-action Transformers movies - with a fifth to be released in 2017 - values for the toys are skyrocketing. On eBay there are more than 93,000 listings for Transformer auctions just in Action Figures alone.

The images also reveal the diversity of materials, textures, colours, shapes, and sizes of radios of earlier ages. Reintroducing machines that few people see anymore and perhaps hardly know existed, this fascinating book restores the once state-of-the-art machines' aesthetic glory.
